Do a page about your astrological sign (Aries, Taurus, etc). Here’s a site to look up the basics. Find your Chinese sign here.

Do a page about your birthdate (price of gas, #1 song, etc). I had some fun looking at dmarie’s time capsule.

Do a page about how the universe aligned for you to meet your sweetie.

Or write about your luck (or unluck as the case may be).

Nicknames come in many shapes and sizes. We acquire some before birth,  pick up a few in school, and grow into others as we find our place in life.  While some of the nicknames will inevitably be embarassing, if we’re lucky, there’s at least one name that gets to the heart of who we are.

Personally, I’ve been thinking about nicknames a lot lately, as my husband and I prepare to welcome our first child, a baby whose gender we don’t know, but who has been called Monkey from day one.   We’ll see what other nicknames he/she picks up in the coming years. And it just so happens I’m in good company. Ali Edwards recently blogged about her new little girl’s  growing list of nicknames (which includes Peaches…how cute is that??” And my adorable friend Emily is getting ready to welcome her little Spud.

So your challenge this week….document a nickname. It can be one of your own, or a name you have for someone special in your life.

My challenge for you this week is pretty straightforward but still flexible enough that you can take it in more than one direction. Other than straight, I guess. Anyway…

You can do this challenge about your child, yourself as a child, or pretty much anyone you know who was ever a child (and I’m guessing that’s most everyone you know!). You can even do the challenge about the child who still lives in you (because I, for one, know I still have some growing to do).

Ah, summer.

As a kid it meant riding my bike to the neighborhood pool, coming home sunburned, and spending the evening waiting for the familiar song of the ice cream truck. As a grownup who makes a living as a wedding photographer, summer means my Saturdays are booked a year in advance and I have to RSVP no to many a cookout.

This week I’m challenging everyone to create a layout about something that screams summer to you. Maybe it’s a staple of summers when you were a kid (remember those long ice pops that turned your tongue blue or red or orange?). Or maybe it’s an annual summer vacation location. Whatever it is, capture summer in a layout.

I can’t figure out how this new version of wordpress works. i can’t figure out how to load pictures and i can’t link, so you’ll have to bear with me for a while. but here’s the challenge, sans pictures and links: it’s a random word challenge. there’s a generator online that just throws out words, if you don’t like the first word, i’ll give you the option of trying again 4 more times, but that’s it. you have to use one of those five words as a jumping off point for your journaling. i think this will be fun because everyone’s pages are going to be SO different.

Black Friday has now passed and with it came the official start to the holiday shopping season. You can count me among the many who love the holiday season! I love decorating with ornaments collected over the years, I love the songs with lyrics I could sing in my sleep, I even like the shopping. Browsing the toy aisles, I feel like a kid again myself. I can still remember the feeling of finally getting that much longed-for item on Christmas morning and I’m having just as much fun anticipating my kiddos’ reactions when they see what Santa has brought. So for this week’s challenge, write about the best gift you ever received. Gifts obviously come in all shapes and sizes – some wrapped in bright paper, some delivered in other ways. Choose a gift, material or otherwise, that you treasure and make a layout in honor of it. And that will be your gift to us!

In continued celebration of our first year of journaling challenges, we have another guest challenger–Christyn or akscrappea. Here’s her challenge for us this week:

Over the years, I’ve come to find that music is a vital part of my creative process and really, life in general. This week I chose to revisit the song lyrics challenge…but with a little twist.. Country music fans will know the Trisha Yearwood song “The Song Remembers When” (even if you’re not a country fan, it’s worth checking out), the song talks about hearing a song on a radio and being taken back to particular place and time that may have been forgotton in the rush of day to day life. That’s this week’s challenge…pick a song and journal about the memories it brings to mind.

We all ended up pulling out old photos for this one, I guess that’s the nature of the beast this week! Can’t wait to see what you come up with. Don’t forget to link your layout to the thread on 2Peas or in your comments here. We love seeing how everyone interprets the challenge differently.
