So…Last week Emily tested us all. She’s like that. She always loves to stretch our brains. This week, we’re going to take it easy. Our challenge this week is to use a quote, a poem, a song…something that you didn’t write. Easy, right?? We hope so! It’s nice to not have to think so hard every once in a while. heehee

Oh, and before I forget….We are taking next week off! It’s a holiday week and we want to wish you all a happy and safe Fourth of July!! We’ll see you the week after!

OK, this one will take some thinking, but I promise it will be worth it. Usually I’ll journal in a block or around the photo. That’s a great way to do it, but it can become a bit stale if you do it every time. The challenge this week: journal about anything you want, but you have use the journaling as a major design element of your page.

We’ve got a few examples, and will add more as we create more, but you can interpret this in numerous ways–it will be fun to see what everyone comes up with. Please post a comment when you are finished, don’t forget to add a link so we can praise your work. We love seeing what you come up with! And please feel free to share this site with your friends. Heather’s used her journaling to create a strong visual line from top to bottom, with a fun little jag around the picture. See how her fancy handwriting almost mimics the circles in the paper she used. If you didn’t look closely, you may not even notice the journaling. Cool, huh? You don’t have to use your handwriting, fonts work great too!

Another by Heather shows how you can make your journaling become part of your title–too much fun! I like how the three blocks of pictures and paper flows down into the title and the journaling doesn’t stop that flow. It’s also a great example of how journaling doesn’t have to be long to tell the story.

My first example uses the journaling as the main body of the page. I took a comment my son said and made it the focus:

Your family tree, that is. This week, we challenge you to look beyond your immediate family and journal about your extended family. Feel free to interpret this however you like and then run with it!

This week, Em and I both made pages about our in-laws. Brothers- and sisters-in-law to be exact.  We can’t wait to see what you do!

A name. Everyone has one, so tell us something about it. It can be how you got your name or nickname. It can be about how many people have your name. It can be about how unique you’ve always felt with your name. It can even be a name you wish you had! Just journal about your name–it’s fun!
